ABI.Silicon Valley and Women in Big Data Present: Careers in Data Science

Abstract: 

Data science is one of today’s fastest-growing fields with applications in health, finance, retail, IoT, and more.

Please join us to hear from industry experts about how data science is being used at their companies, what have been their career trajectories and to network with others interested in this topic. The panel discussion includes representation from established women at market maker technology companies.

Come join us for an insightful and community building experience!

The event is planned on Monday, August 21st, at eBay headquarters. ABI.Silicon Valley is co-organizing this event with Women in Big Data group of Silicon Valley.

Registration and networking begins at 6:30 p.m. The program will kick-off at 7:00 p.m. and will conclude by 8:30. Food and drinks will be provided. Here is the detailed Agenda:

Speakers: 

Helen Kim is the VP of Business Operations for Product & Technology at eBay. She is responsible for product strategy & planning, analytics & insights, program management, agile transformation, tech learning and tech innovation. This year, Helen is also serving as the diversity and inclusion champion for the Product & Technology org. Prior to eBay, Helen was the VP of Business Operations for Technology at Yahoo. She also worked at McAfee and VeriSign managing a team of Engineering and Business program managers responsible for the product lifecycle. Earlier in her career, Helen was a management consultant at Deloitte & Touche in the e-Business Technology & Security practice. Helen holds a B.S. degree in Business Administration and an MBA from the University of California, Riverside.
As the President and CEO of the Anita Borg Institute (ABI), Telle Whitney drives ABI’s mission to increase the representation of women technologists in the global workforce and has led ABI’s substantial growth in size and impact.  Previously, Telle held senior technical management positions with Malleable Technologies and Actel Corporation, and co-founded the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing Conference. She serves on the advisory boards of Caltech’s Information Science and Technology initiative, California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology, and Illuminate Ventures. She also serves on the Board of Directors for CMD-IT. Telle has received ACM’s Distinguished Service award, the CRA’s A. Nico Habermann Award for her role in founding and sustaining NCWIT, and an honorary degree from Carnegie Mellon University, among other awards. Telle received her Ph.D. from Caltech, and her bachelor’s degree from the University of Utah, both in Computer Science.
Ziya Ma is vice president in the Software and Services Group and director of big data technologies at Intel Corporation. She is responsible for optimizing big data solutions on the Intel® architecture platform, leading open source efforts in the Apache community, and bringing about optimal big data analytics experiences for Intel customers. Her team works closely with internal product teams, the open source community, the industry and academia to further Intel’s efforts in the big data field. Before assuming her current position in 2014, Ma was the product development software director at Intel IT. In that role, she led the team that provided software lifecycle management tools and infrastructure and analytics solutions to Intel software teams worldwide. Ma spent the first 10 years of her Intel career in the Technology and Manufacturing Group, holding various management positions related to the development of embedded software for factory equipment, manufacturing execution systems, process-control systems, user interfaces and business intelligence solutions. Before joining Intel in 2000, Ma was a software engineer in the semiconductor product division at Motorola Inc. Ma received her bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from Hefei University of Technology in China, and earned a master’s degree and Ph.D. in computer science and engineering from Arizona State University. She is also a co-founder of the Women in Big Data forum.
Erika Lunceford delivers change through technology solutions and strategies to investment services. She has been with BNY Mellon (BNYM) since August of 2004, and currently leads Client Technology Relationship Management and Client Engagement Technology Services. She works on a variety of BNYM strategic initiatives and business development opportunities as assigned. Previously, Erika was technology Program Manager for BNYM’s Tri-Party Repo Reform program that went live on April 23, 2015. In this role, she created and delivered technology solutions in support of BNYM’s Risk Reduction. Prior to this industry program, she managed projects for Government Securities Clearance, Prime Brokerage Services and Global Collateral Management. Erika also co-chairs the BNYM’s Women In Technology (WIT) Sponsorship Committee and works as part of the core team for WIT (Winner of Anita Borg Institute’s 2015 Top Company for Women Technologists).
Jennifer Bow is currently the Head of Consumer Platforms at Oracle Data Cloud and mentor for high-potential, at-risk youth at the LEMO Foundation. Formerly a college athlete turned media and tech consultant at MediaLink. She is always a constantly curious consumer of people, products, and information.

The session is moderated by Deepti Gupta (ABI.Silicon Valley’s Community Leader) and Regina Karson from Women in Big Data.
